Keep it Simple/Go Big or Go Home by Charley Gynn

Over the past few years there has been a growing trend in foliage heavy weddings and then with this years Pantone colour being green, the trend really has hit the floor running.  This weekend we took the idea of simple green foliages and pushed it to the extreme.  We kept all the details really clean and simple with clear glass bottles dotted down the centres of banquet style tables with white linen table cloths.  We placed white dinner candles in the tops of bottles filled with water and a simple stem of ruscus inside.  All very clean cut, not over crowded, simple but elegant.  The real star of the show however was the all foliage curtain we installed in the marque to create a divide between the dinning area and the dance floor.  The wall was an instant eye catcher as you walked into the space set in the beautiful Essex countryside.  The idea is simple in itself but created such an impact and had guests talking about it all evening.  Sometimes "Keep it Simple, Stupid" (as my husband always says) is most definitely what you should live by when planning a wedding or as I more often than not say "Go Big or Go Home"

Calling all April Brides by Charley Gynn

April is by far the best month to get married, the weather is never disappointing as you don't really have high expectations, if anything, its always better than you could have hoped but more importantly THE FLOWERS ARE FAB!!! All my favourite flowers are in season.  You are getting the end of all the best spring flowers plus the very start of peonies and garden roses, who could ask for more?!....And the colours, don't even get me started...move over whites, creams and nudes, hello yellows, hot pinks, purples blues oranges. Mix all these wonderful scented blooms with colourful vases, ribbons and a splash of unexpected sunshine and you have the perfect wedding day.

My favourite April wedding has to be last weekends (possibly my favourite wedding to date all though there have been so many fabulous ones, but this one is definitely up there).  A beautiful setting of The Tap on the Line, a gorgeous listed pub with an incredible atrium over looking Kew gardens train station. Typically London, old mixed with new but in the most cohesive way, elegant way.  The bride was a dream, the venue was a dream and the brief was a dream, all in all, a dream wedding. We used "Claire de Lune" Peonies, Coral Peonies, David Austin Roses, English Lilac, Ranunculus, Aquilegia and the most heavily scented sweet peas.  I've just given you a list of all my favourite flowers there (bar dahlias, but thats a different story)...Anyway, enough about they say a picture says a thousand words....PS. get married in April!!

Totally Tropical Vibes by Charley Gynn

Tropical is definitely the trend for 2017 weddings, it started to creep in last year and this year we are going to be seeing it everywhere, and why not?! We LOVE it!! Get yourselves over to Festival Brides to check out our first shoot of the year working with the oh so dreamy team of wedding professionals.  Styled and pulled together by the wonderful Laura from Holden Bespoke Wedding Planners, photographed by the ever so talented Kitty Wheeler Shaw. Cake by Dudette Asma from Sugared Saffron, Hair by Kasia and makeup by Birute Thomas, both who know exactly what they are up to.  Theres even a video of the whole day beautifully curated by This Modern Revelry Videographers   This shoot is full of flowers that you probably wouldn’t even consider for your big day and maybe even though God no I most certainly don’t like anthuriums…but before you you make those sweeping statements, take a gander at this LA meets London, super stylish, totally tropical, laid back but chic wedding inspirational styled shoot.

January Flowers for all you January Brides by Charley Gynn

We all feel like January is bleak and miserable, cold and damp and to be honest, we’re right but when it comes to flowers, we couldn't be further from the truth.  January is fabulous for all those spring flowers starting to make an appearance.  beautiful soft peach Ranunculus, white Narcissi, the petite yellow tete e tete, heavenly scented Hyacinths, Tulips start making an appearance, snowdrops, muscari and my all time favourite, Hellebores are still going string from Christmas.  Not only do you have all these little delicately scented gems but you have so many different foliage textures that you can mix it all with.  January has it all.  If you're getting married in January, its been my dream to do an all one flower wedding.  Imaging long banquet tables full of mixed colour hyacinths in blues, pinks and peaches, or big bundles of bright yellow daffodils spilling out of beautiful ceramic jugs.  Something like this would have such an impact for your guests, not only visually but the smell would be amazing.  Even better, spring flowers tend to be cheaper so you could really go for it even with a smaller budget.

New Year, New Blog (hopefully) by Charley Gynn

Hello All,

It’s been a while since I last posted on here.  I started full of good intensions of telling you all about the wonderful work we’ve been doing here at The London Flower House, but last year whizzed by without me even getting a chance to even log on.  We had so many beautiful brides, worked in new venues but most importantly, made some lovely flowery friends on the way.  This year however I promise to tell you about our journey through 2017 as already its set to be a good one.  We’ve got lots of exciting weddings booked in for the coming year already including my very best friends which promises to be a little bit spectacular.  There will be a very summery photoshoot which I can tell you all about next week that we worked on with the fabulous Holden Bespoke, one of our fave wedding planners and hopefully a few more as the year goes on.  This year I want to take using seasonal flowers and foliages even more seriously so every month i’ll do a little post on what is about and some floral inspiration for you if you're planning your big day, especially in the colder months.

Sarah and James 13/06/15 by Charley Gynn

I loved this wedding.  The first one of the season is always the most nerve wracking but fortunately everything went so smoothly.  The peonies all opened beautifully, the roses just looked perfect.  Sarah has just sent me the professional photos from Jamie at Studio Rouge and I couldn't be happier seeing all our hard work in action, I especially love the photo of all the girls in the lift, such a honest moment captured.

Press Day Pop Up by Charley Gynn

April was a time for lots of fashion brands to showcase their AW15 collections to the press and we were invited along to show our flowery skills to the wonderful press.  To stand out from the crowd the team at Radiator PR gave out our green bouquets and mini terrariums to their lovely guests.  What a fun two days we had and lots of new friends made.  Thank you for inviting us.

Hens with Headgear by Charley Gynn

Last weekend I ventured south of the river the gorgeous Chloe's house.  Her and her friend Claire wanted to treat the bride to be to an afternoon of cakes, cheese and of course...FLOWERS.  First things first, we ate and got the Prosecco open!!  Next we touched the surface of bouquet making, going wild for a more 'just picked' look as Cass plans to gather flowers from the garden for her wedding next month in Canada.  Then we all sat down to concentrate on headdresses, getting the hang of wiring flowers while we put the world to rights.  A very enjoyable afternoon had by all. Cass' headdress was to die for and Chloe was a natural making a pretty perfect bouquet.  Thank you girlies for allowing me to be your fourth hen for the afternoon and thank you for the delicious cake Claire.  Lots of Love all your ways!! xxx

A Very Nice Time in Nice by Charley Gynn

Congratulations to the wonderful Robin and Allison who got married in the stunning South of France this weekend.  We at the London Flower House were more than privileged to be part of such a special day, evening and weekend.  I really cant wait to see the photos when they come back from the photographer, whom you most certainly check out,"dream Come True" is a massive understatement... (she didn't take the photo below, that is one of my very own iPhone specials.)

Summer Showcase at London Zoo by Charley Gynn

Last week I was asked to "do the flowers" for the Summer Showcase at ZSL London Zoo.  The evening was for event professionals to see what the zoo could offer as a unique venue in London.  The whole thing went splendidly well.  There were mini burgers, Stilton and Port flavoured ice cream and meerkats.  What more could you want from your night. Oh and the flowers were pretty good too...
